  • Update 2: Big downloads

Way way way back (and on the other blog) in February, I mentioned that we had some lovely presentations by Jeff Prosise on ASP.NET 2.0. Well, I *finally* got them available for download. However, they are *huge* (>100MB each), so you may need Get Right or the equivalent.

  • Update 1 for today

The C4F item mentioned yesterday is now live. Not much now, but very cool stuff coming soon. The Half-life Mod Spot on Coding4Fun. It's what Visual C++ was made for ;)

  • Site maps, site maps and standards

Three articles up on the ASP.NET Dev Center today. Building ASP.NET 2.0 Web Sites Using Web Standards by Stephen Walther. An excellent look at what we all have been waiting for -- XHTML Web pages made easy. Custom Site Map Providers in ASP.NET 2.0. Morgan Skinner looks at Site Map Providers, and how you can extend them to point at other things than the sitemap file, in this case, the entries in a database table. In a strange coincidence, today was also the date that David Gristwood's fine Understanding and Extending the Site Navigation System in ASP.NET 2.0 went live. This one gives...

  • On the permanence of blogs

I think I can now empathize with those who were on Radio, or other early blog engines. I started blogging (upon the Spider King's instruction) back in 2003. Hardly early. My first bloggings were using a custom "system" that I had written -- I would generate the RSS, then FTP that to my server. The blog software (essentially in reverse of many engines) would render that RSS as HTML. Later, I started up on ScottW's fledgling dotnetweblogs.com. I *think* I had a little to do with its later becoming weblogs.asp.net, but that may just be my delusions of grandeur speaking. Finally, after being forced over to a...

  • About DiskCacheable

More on the "Beta 2 to RTM changes" for the three of you (Hi Brian, Karl and Scott) that read this. There is now an item describing the rationale and workarounds for the DiskCacheable feature of ASP.NET 2.0 that will not be in the released version.

  • Testing, testing, Part 2

I've now posted the API by API changes documents for ASP.NET 2.0 as a download. (Note this is a bunch of Excel files). You can see the full list of changes at the link I posted earlier.

  • Sssshhh! It's a secret

OK, this one is entirely driven from a spiteful and selfish need to see just how many people (if at all) read these posts, and if so, how fast word spreads over "the blogosphere". I've just posted a list of changes to ASP.NET 2.0 since Beta 2. I have told no one but you. Pass it on. On Monday, I will add lists of each of the individual APIs in ASP.NET that have changed. You won't want to miss that. TTFN - Kent Now severely enjoying: The Blade (Pro-Gress Mix) by Front Line Assembly

  • ASP.NET hands-on labs from TechEd 2005

OK, I *finally* got the hands-on labs from TechEd (US) 2005 posted. As is usual the case, it's linked off of the Beta 2 page on MSDN, but for those who like to read the last page of the book first, here's a direct link.

  • Programming for kids

OK, I missed the whole LOGO revolution back in the day, and I have no kids. Having said all that, if I *had* kids (that I knew about), having a way for them to learn and explore the horrid addictionjoy that is programming would be fun. The Kid Programming Language seems like a nice way to get them going on it. At the very least because it also generates C# and VB code so I'd be able to understand what it's doing.

  • Scheduling my life away

For a few days, anyway. I just booked my trip to the PDC this year. Look for me in the Coding4Fun lounge, hopefully having The Finalizer bringing beverages. See you there.

  • To give choice, or not to give choice?

I love reading the 37 Signals blog, as it quite often provides something to think about. Today, it's on to the favourite of some, preferences in software. They're against them, and they give me (and now hopefully you) something to think about.

  • TechEd Presentations, Part 2

To follow up on my earlier post about the ASP.NET presentations being available, I've now gotten the C# presentations up. Only three that I could find, if I'm missing any, please let me know. Team System ones on Tuesday (I'm travelling to Redmond on Monday)

  • Did I mention podcasts?

As Dan lets the world know, Coding4Fun now has videos. The one point he neglected to mention, however is that we are now making those available as podcasts as well. If you use podcasting software (like iPodder or iTunes) to subscribe to the C4F feed, you will automatically get the videos (and the downloads) as soon as we get them out the door. Hopefully someone will enjoy...

  • Tasty upcoming phones

The Windows Mobile team is showing off some new and upcoming phones on Channel9. I'll take one of each!

  • 1.33 GB of viewing pleasure

I've added the talks from TechEd 2005 (US) to the TechEd page. Now you can listen to Scott, Stefan, Simon and others as they were just a few weeks ago at TechEd. Note that the producer files were cut to run off a DVD -- they are fairly large, and not recommended over dial-up. For those poor souls, I heartily recommend picking up the DVD itself. Now, I just need to track down any videos...

  • LEGO: Serious Play

As we all know, LEGO is a gift from on high. Or at least Denmark. Now, you can get the fun & joy you remember from building with LEGO back in the day, but with your co-workers. Serious play is a program offered by the good LEGO folk to help build teams and inspire. You have to admit, it's going to be better than rapelling down a mountainside to be caught by your manager.

  • 101 Samples (well, 50) for Visual Studio 2005

The 101 Samples (and the related book) have been some of our most popular downloads in the past. Now, we've got 101 samples for Visual Studio 2005 (in both C# and Visual Basic). Well, the first 50. More on the way.
